The History of Superannuation
Superannuation as a concept has been around for centuries. It can trace its ancestry back to Roman times, and was often awarded to military leaders such as Admiral Lord Nelson.
Australia’s experience with superannuation has been mixed. From being a trusted method of funding a person’s retirement, with Australia being one of the first countries to offer superannuation to employees, it is now viewed with suspicion due to successive federal governments treating it as a cash cow.
Australia does have the honour of being the only country in the world that offers true choice. Ranging from large industry funds up to the very unique self managed super funds.
